Bhagwant Mann government expected to announce 300 units of free energy: Sources | Amritsar News

AMRITSAR: The Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government in Punjab, which completes a month in office on Saturday, is expected to announce 300 units of free electricity for households, sources said on Friday.
They said the announcement should be made on Saturday.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had said on Tuesday that his government would soon give “good news” to the people of the state, saying it could announce the free supply of electricity to households.
The Aam Aadmi party had made the pledge ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections. When making the announcement last year, however, Kejriwal did not specify whether 300 units of free electricity would be given per month, as Punjab has a two-month billing cycle.
AAP Spokesperson Malwinder Singh Kang had told media here a few days ago that Punjab government’s plan to give 300 units of free electricity to people was almost ready and an announcement would be soon done.
Meanwhile, Congress leader and MP for Bholath Sukhpal Singh Khaira said on Friday he had learned that the state’s AAP government would impose “tubewell bills” on farmers with land holdings of 10 acres and above. .
“I heard @BhagwantMann’s govt will maliciously cross-subsidize! They will impose tubewell bills on farmers of 10+ acres and then give away 300 free units from those savings! This cheating was never specified by ArvindKejriwal while giving this guarantee!” Khaira tweeted.
The state currently provides free electricity to the agricultural sector.
In addition, it provides 200 units of free electricity to all scheduled castes, backward castes and households below the poverty line (BPL).
