Mitsubishi Materials: Switch all energy sources used at Saitama office and Central Research Institute to renewable energy – 60% of energy sources used by Mitsubishi Materials Group will be renewable energy by FY2031 –
Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has decided to introduce electricity derived from renewable energies at the Saitama office (Saitama city, Saitama prefecture) and at the central research institute (Naka city, Ibaraki prefecture).
The Mitsubishi Materials Group is making technological improvements such as further energy conservation and fuel conversion efforts with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 47% (year-on-year). 2014) by fiscal year 2031 and to practically zero, or carbon neutrality, by fiscal year 2046. In addition, we plan to introduce electricity derived from renewable energies in phases that do not emit no CO2 in power generation, and to transfer approximately 60% of the electricity consumed by the Mitsubishi Materials group to such sources by fiscal year 2031.
As part of the effort, we will switch all of the energy used at the Saitama office and the Central Research Institute to virtually CO.2 emission-free electricity that uses environmental values derived from renewable energies from January 2022 and April 2022, respectively. Through these efforts, we plan to reduce annual GHG emissions by approximately 4,200 tonnes in terms of CO.2 emissions (based on actual total emissions for fiscal year 2021 at both facilities).

The vision of Mitsubishi Materials Group is to “become the first business group committed to creating a sustainable world through materials innovation, with the use of our unique and distinctive technologies” based on its business philosophy “For people, society and the Earth ”. We will continue to help build a carbon-free society by ensuring that environmental impact reduction is considered in manufacturing and by promoting aggressive reduction of GHG emissions to achieve our new goal.
